Do you want to capture the screenshot of texts, images or an application from your desktop? Sometimes you need the screenshot of some transactions, documents, images and some clips from videos to keep as a reference. A screenshot is essential to solve some system-related issues for the technicians to identify the actual problem. You can also save and share changes that you have made or notes or images using screenshots.

Print screen
You can capture the entire desktop screen using the print screen button on your computer keyboard. The print screen key is located at the upper right corner of your keyboard (the key may appear as PrtSc, PrtScn, or PrntScrn depend on the keyboard). Press the Print Screen key to capture an image of the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard in your computer’s memory. To capture the active window-the window that you are currently working in-click the Window that you want to copy and press Alt+Print screen. The screenshot of window is captured and is in your clipboard. To save the image, open an image editor (Microsoft Paint) or an Office program (Word), paste (ctrl+V) the image to the application and save.

Snipping tool
This tiny handy tool comes with Windows 10 operating system that helps you to capture windows, full-screen, rectangular portion or a free-form shape on your desktop easily. I personally use this tool to capture the screenshot of images, apps, and tools to narrate things on this site. In the snipping tool, select mode (see above picture). The Free-form snip allows you to draw a free-form shape around an object. You can select the area that you want to capture. In Rectangular snip, you can drag the cursor around an object to form a rectangle. The Window snip allows selecting a window that you want to capture. You can take a screenshot of the application or dialog box using window snip. It captures only the selected window. The Full-screen snip captures the entire screen. When you capture a snip, it is automatically copied to the snipping tool window. You can make changes, save and share it with others. To access the snipping tool-type snipping tool in the search box on the taskbar. Then from the result select the Snipping Tool. You can use keyboard shortcuts to choose snipping mode and to save the snip. Alt+M for choosing a snipping mode. Alt+N to create a new snip in the same mode. Alt+D for delay capture by 1-5 seconds, use Ctrl+ to save the snip. You can edit the snip in Paint eD by selecting Edit>Edit with Paint 3D.

There are some tools available to capture the screenshot. Lightshot screen capture tool allows you to select any area on your desktop. If you want to record computer screen, capture webcam and microphone and save the recordings as videos and GIFs or to take screenshots you need a sophisticated screen capturing tool like Movavi Screen Recorder. If you need to record the computer screen with narration, sounds, mouse movements, and mouse clicks, then this tool will help you. If you want to capture only the screenshots, the Windows snipping tool is enough for you.
